Choreographer

Gianluca Schiavoni was born in 1972 in Rome, Italy, and since he was very young, he started his artistic career acting in the Italian film IL CORAGGIO DI PARLARE. After this experience, he was awarded the prize as best actor at the Giffoni Film Festival (Italy) in 1987. He graduated at the Teatro alla Scala Academy in 1992 and immediately joined the ballet company. Since then, has performed in classical and contemporary productions, both as a soloist and as a principal dancer.

In 2006 he collaborated with the Teatro alla Scala Academy as dance coordinator for the project Leonardo Best. In the same year, he graduated from Rome’s La Sapienza University in Literature and Philosophy with a major in History of Theatre and Performing Arts.

From 2006, he dedicated himself full-time to choreography. The first creation was the solo ANDROMEDA at Teatro Manzoni in Pistoia. The following year his work ORION debuts at Teatro Manzoni in Milan.

In 2008 he created AMNIOS for the triple bill SPHAIROS and in 2009 SHOCK at Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan.

He created STEEL in 2010 for Sabrina Brazzo, principal dancers at the La Scala ballet company. In the same year, he began a partnership with the Teatro alla Scala as a choreographer creating the short film AN ITALIAN DREAM, directed by Matthias Zentner, and produced by Tod’s, as a promotional video. This was followed by RED TOUCH, DANCING A DREAM, a solo created for the Chinese ballet star Honglan Hou.

In 2011, Gianluca new project L'ALTRO CASANOVA debuted with great success at Teatro alla Scala, and it was followed by choreography for the dances of Charles Gounod’s opera ROMEO ET JULIETTE, directed by Bartlett Sher.

In 2011, together with Honglan Hou and the director Sherwood Hou, he choreographed DEGAS DIAMOND, a multimedia show at Shanghai Grand Theatre.

In collaboration with director Matthias Zentner, Gianluca created the movement for the publicity for the smartphone LG-Optimus 3D Max in 2012. In the same year, he created the choreography for a short film about the Audi brand of cars.

After that, he worked with Julian Hargreaves for an advertising campaign for Bagutta, the historic clothing brand. He also created BLACKSTONE, a pas de deux for La Scala principal dancers Eris Nezha and Petra Conti, for the International Gala of Ekaterinburg.

In 2014 he choreographed KIMERA for the Balletto di Roma, in 2015 his MEDEA debuted at the Estonian National Opera, and in 2016 he was invited by the Georgian State Opera to make a new work with music by Nino Rota, LA STRADA.

In 2017, he created the choreography for the New Year’s concert from Venice and broadcast in Eurovision. In the same year, Gianluca’s new piece ALICE IN WONDERLAND debuted with great success at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.

In 2019 THE FLYING MACHINE, a multimedia event that celebrates the genius of Leonardo, is staged in the prestigiuos History museum in Hamburg,

Also in 2019 ALICE IN WONDERLAND made her national debut, with great success, with the Estonian National Opera.

Also in 2019 Gianluca collaborates with Roberto Bolle who chooses the pas de deux taken from the ballet L'ALTRO CASANOVA for the On Dance broadcast on RAI 1 on January 1, 2020.

In 2020 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of UN, in collaboration with La Scala theatre, the pas de deux taken from the ballet L'ALTRO CASANOVA, is interpreted by Roberto Bolle and Virna Toppi principal of La Scala thetare. The duet is broadcast worldwide in all the UN deputies.
